A title like this is of course extreme, but I do really think that this way of working and improving your jazz solo is both underused and misunderstood, and that is a pity because it is very effective and in fact, it is also a part of The Jazz education tradition.
If you can practice in a way that makes you learn faster and sound better then what do you have to lose?

02:31 Composing Is About The Process!
I chanced upon a youtube video of Barry Harris working with (astonished) students and he did a similar thing except he played them over the bebop major scale. While paying strict attention to voice leading, each of the four voices, leads to the next note in the scale, creating a very interesting take on the bebop scale.
I've heard, anecdotally, that Barry Harris was influenced by Arnold Schoenberg's Theory of Harmony. Which seems reasonable. Common to both of them is the importance of dominant seventh chords a minor third apart - because those chords share the same diminished seventh chord. Larry Ridley, Barry Harris, Jim Harrison, and Frank Fuentes were partners in creating the Jazz Cultural Theater beginning 1982. Located at 368 Eighth Avenue in New York City in a storefront between 28th and 29th Streets in Manhattan, it was primarily a performance venue featuring prominent jazz artists and also hosted jam sessions.
